The Boston Public Library offers a multitude of historical images in its flickr stream for use with attribution. The original 1872 Kilburn Brothers stereograph from the series "Ruins of the Great Fire in Boston, in Nov. 1872" is titled Arch Street, from Summer. The Great Boston Fire destroyed 776 buildings, including much of the financial district. Horses were immobilized by illness, necessitating the steam engine pumpers like this be pulled by hand. Technical details
The digital image was darkened, rotated until level (arbitrary) and the borders were cropped. Subsequent left image rotation (-1.2 deg.), left image resizing (100.2%), alignment, and animated gif generation done with StereoPhotoMaker, a freeware program by Masuji Suto & David Sykes.
