so that was a little private beach near Naples, beautiful little corner, with some fortifications, i thought i would use the surrounding too, but it's more dificult for a catalog because you don't want other things than the product to rob visual attention.

I love soft lights as well, but they're easier to contrlo if they're close. There is a massive problem with putting the light very close to the subject. We (all?) know the light that falls on a subject is proportional the square of he distance between it and the light source. If your light is 100cm from the subject and by just moving a bit, the subject moves back a bit, say another 50 cm, well all of a sudden your light is 1/2, not f/7.1 but f/4. That's the reason why we buy very powerful flashes and put them 5m away, the light difference between 5m and 5.5m is much smaller than betwen 1m and 1.5m. Boy, 12 years of engineering ought to count for something!
