Light and Shadow

View On Black
Shot with my very nifty 50mm F1.4. Has to be the best lens purchase I have ever made.
The difference between whether you say, 'I wish I would have,' or 'I'm glad I did,' at the end of your life is whether or not you take DECISIVE ACTION during your life.

Trap for Catching Bugs at Night in Thailand
captainkimo.com/trap-for-catching-bugs-at-night-in-thailand
The Thai folks out in Thailand's country side love eating bugs. You name the bug and I'm sure they have a recipe for it. Catching bugs isn't difficult, they set up traps like these at night. The bugs fly towards the light. Eventually they get tired and slide down the plastic sheet into the pot filled with water. And I'm guessing when the bugs get wet, they can't fly out.

The Weaver's Cabin at Penland, NC
Image by mbtphoto (away a lot)
Traditional silver gelatin film and Ilford RC Multi-contrast print processed and printed by the artist in a analog darkroom full frame. Available light only at Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC.
The reason the right hand side says, "Digital" is that my images are 11" x 14" or larger most of the time and will not fit into the scanner. I use my Nikon D-50 to shoot the black and white, BW Toned or BW handcolored prints to enter them on Flickr

Press "L" to see the awesomeness! ;)
World is still here......
Didn't really turn out how I wanted it to but still looks alright.. Basically just took a long exposure of my stairs in complete darkness then ran down them with a light then messed around with it in photoshop for awhile!
I wish my stairs were this awesome and long ha!

Daily Disney - Monorail Yellow
I try to post a picture a day - but these last few days have been just crazy. I finally got some time to sit down and edit a picture.
This picture is strongly back lit. It is sort of a mental block for me to edit a picture and not have the proper levels everywhere. So this picture was challenging for me in that respect. I kind of like the way it turned out, though.

Glowing Bar City Street Night Lights
This picture with the glowing lights of the bar street lamps were photographed in the city at night in Puerto Cruz de Tenerife. This picture was created for my understanding friend epSos.de and can be used for free, if you link epSos.de as the original author of the image.
Small LED town lighting created a perfect atmosphere to go out and photograph that evening street lights. The warm glow of the city night lights welcomed the soul to rest for a while, so that it was possible to create this long exposure photo.
The charming, romantic and warm colors of this urban scene is one perfect example of how the artificial town lighting changes the natural night light in the city.
Thank you for sharing this picture with your friends !
Black Berries and Northern Lights

I've been feeling very uncreative recently. I'm looking at my pictures and I'm missing the spark of thought that turns them into something neat.

Juke Glow
Quick test shot and stack of 130+ 10sec exposures of lighting the car.
Going to do this again and be more precise with the lighting, but for a quick 'test' shot I think it works! :)
What are your thoughts? oh yea, stayed up late waiting for photoshop to finish loading the 130 raw files :ergh: :)
Lighting: One old style flash from just above camera, random light source for glow, and I'm pretty sure the yellow glow is from the security light at the end of my garden!
The Chicago Theological Seminary Building - The Milton Friedman Institute // Romancing the Stone
Stone and light. The former home of the Chicago Theological Seminary, now home to the Milton Friedman Institute, is a favorite building of mine. Here are a few posts with some more images from this Gothic marvel..Last November, I returned to the city of broad shoulders to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with my family. Having an afternoon to spare, my wife and I met with friends on the campus of the University of Chicago and I took few photographs with my good friend Matt.I convinced him to return to the great limestone cavern of the Chicago Theological Seminary Building. We spent some few happy moments taking in the cold, damp and empty hallways and catching up.There's something about these walls that draws me in whenever I'm near. Perhaps it's the echo of steps upon the worn and weathered staircase, bathed in tungsten light; or perhaps it's the smell of many a word wafting from the underground, labyrinthine bookshelves that line one of the last and greatest independent booksellers in the country; or maybe it's the architect's expression of love for a style long extinct, wrought in ribbons of amber light clinging to the ribs of the close and stoney vault.I had long admired the beautiful and thoroughly abandoned courtyard of the seminary. The flagstones were purple and blue with the damp of the rainstorm and I decided to open one of thegreat leaded glass doors that line the cloister and step out into the grey of a gathering storm.I am going to be leading an awesome photography workshop here on The University of Chicago campus on Saturday, May 26th at 8 AM until 12 noon. I have 10 folks confirmed and registered and another few who have expressed interest. This leaves room for you if you are so inclined. We have a classroom in the awesome Logan Center for the Arts where we will begin by sharing a few thoughts on why great images "work."Then we'll do a few exercises and talk about a few tricks to keep the mind sharp and the eye (and camera!) focused. Then we will get onto the meat of the workshop and take a walking tour of several buildings of immense beauty, focusing on making successful compositions using natural light and the architecture. After shooting for about a few hours we will return to the Logan Center and get into post-processing. I am going to teach the participants exactly how to get the most from their images and generate the beautiful effects you see in my images.Price is 0 - drop a comment or an email to get registered!

Test Shot

I got a mirrorless camera and it's quite interesting to say the least. I used my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 for this shot just to see how things are. It's not that bad.The light on the bottom is from my iPad
