SPARTA — A woman wearing only an unzipped jacket was charged with driving while intoxicated after she allegedly crashed into a stone wall and fled the scene, police said.
A resident of Grove Terrace in the Lake Mohawk section of the township contacted police at 12:53 a.m. on Friday to report that a white Volkswagon Jetta had just crashed into a stone retaining wall on her property and then fled the scene, according to Sgt. John-Paul Beebe
Officer Joseph Pensado, who was in the area on routine patrol, saw the vehicle a short time later on West Shore Trail so he conducted a motor vehicle stop.
Despite the near freezing temperatures, the officer was surprised to find that the operator, Catherine Giaquinto, 36, of Warwick, N.Y., was only wearing an unzipped leather jacket, Beebe said.
Pensado spoke to Giaquinto and suspected she was under the influence of alcohol. When asked why she was driving in the nude, Giaquinto denied being completely naked, Beebe said.
The officer observed fresh damage to the left front fender, driver’s side door and the rear left passenger’s door which was consistent with the damaged retaining wall.
Giaquinto’s speech was badly slurred and mostly unintelligible. She could not remember if she had been involved in an accident and did not know where she was going, Beebe said.
The officer observed a dress and other articles of clothing in plain view on the rear passenger seat of the vehicle. He retrieved these items and directed Giaquinto to get dressed. It took approximately 10-minutes for Giaquinto to put her clothes on and when she wsa done, the officer noted that she had put her dress on inside out and backwards, Beebe said.
After Giaquinto was dressed, she was then directed to exit her motor vehicle to attempt to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Due to her high level of intoxication, Giaquinto could not maintain her balance by simply standing still and listening to the officer’s instructions, Beebe said.
These tests were terminated by the officer a short time later for Giaquinto’s own safety. She was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing and breath testing, Beebe said.
During processing, Giaquinto became argumentative and disorderly. She was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt and a documentation violation
She was released several hours later to a sober adult and her vehicle was impounded.

The nearly-nude driver arrested for crashing her car into a wall while wearing only an unzipped leather jacket was once jailed for smuggling ecstasy in her underwear, MailOnline can reveal today.
Brunette fitness instructor Catherine Giaquinto, 36, was part of a courier ring convicted of sneaking into the U.S. a staggering amount of the illegal party drugs in 2000.
Giaquinto, whose address is linked to a fitness service called Rising vitality Services, was sentenced to 23 months in jail for hiding cash in her clothes while flying to Europe, then bringing 10,000 ecstasy pills back through Newark Airport.

At the time, her lawyer told a judge that her behavior was “aberrant,” saying she had never been in trouble before.
Giaquinto’s latest run in with the law unfolded on Friday night when a Sparta Township, New Jersey, police officer pulled over her damaged Volkswagen Jetta at 12.53am.
Despite the freezing 16 degree temperature, the 36-year-old was wearing next to nothing.
She allegedly told Officer Joseph Pensado she had no memory of crashing into a nearby wall and did not know why she was driving in just a tiny jacket.

The officer spotted clothes on the back seat and told her to get dressed. He claimed it took her 10 minutes of struggling before she put her dress on backwards and inside out.
He also noted that she could barely stand up during a roadside breathalyzer test and that her speech was slurred.
She was charged with a slew of offences, including driving under the influence, failing to wear a seat belt, careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Giaquinto, who is single and lives in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, is due to appear in court on Thursday.
Police sources confirmed to MailOnline that the alleged drink driving was not Giaquinto’s first brush with the law.

She was one of nine people, including a New Jersey police officer, accused of conspiring to bring 35,000 drugs into the country in 2000.
They were arrested three years later and the case was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who is now New Jersey’s high-profile governor.
The court heard that the couriers flew between Newark and the Netherlands, often travelling back via other European cities to cover their tracks.
Giaquinto was accused of flying from Italy with 10,000 pills in her underwear. She later lost an appeal against the length of her sentence.
Her then lawyer Michael Pedicini told MailOnline that he had not spoken to her since the case.
'She was a very nice, attractive young lady,' he said. 'It was very unfortunate.
'She had never done anything like it before and our issue was the length of her sentence. We lost and she served time.'

Joseph Wurzelbacher, the Ohio man made famous for an exchange with then-presidential candidate Barack Obama outside his house in 2008, has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for Congress in Ohio's 9th District.
Wurzelbacher filed on Friday and now has completed the paperwork for "Joe for Congress 2012," his official campaign committee.
The Toledo Blade reported in August that several Ohio Republicans were encouraging him to run, and Wurzelbacher said he was open to the idea, but this is the first official step toward announcing his candidacy. When reached by phone, Wurzelbacher said he was "exploring the possibilities," but the documents show that a campaign is in the works.
"Maybe we need some regular guys in there," Wurzelbacher told The Ticket in August. "That's what I've been doing the past two and a half years, just encouraging regular Americans to run. Tell the liberal media to go to hell and I don't care what you guys say about me, I'm going to try to fix this country."
Wurzelbacher has spent the past three years speaking at tea party rallies and conservative conferences. He most recently helped start an organization for wounded veterans.
Capital New York was the first to report the filings.

An arrogant banker has done all in his power to enforce his position as the ‘one per cent,’ all the while reminding everyone else they’re not.
After dining on a meal at a boutique Newport Beach, California restaurant, the banker left only .33 on a 3.54 tab.
Adding insult to injury, he gave the server, Breanna, another tip: ‘Get a real job.’
