Youth Heartline’s CPSP is unique in the Taos community in that the Talking About Touching curriculum we use for pre-school through third grade is supported by 25 years of research about its effectiveness. We know that children learn best in a safe, trusting environment. The agency that created the TAT curriculum, Committee for Children, is heavily invested in assuring that the curriculum and its instructors establish this safety. Though the fact that child abuse exists in Taos is not a popular topic of conversation, nevertheless it is a reality, and one that actually needs to be directly addressed through education and open community dialogue. It is a fact that the more readily a community confronts child abuse, the more such incidents decline in that community. This is true because secrecy and denial create an environment in which abuse can and does flourish. The worst fact about an atmosphere that fosters child abuse—secrecy—is that the abused child is extremely likely to become an abuser himself or herself.

Prevention of abuse is the most effective way to approach this problem, and the most promising in the effort to end abuse altogether. Addressing this important topic when children are very young increases the likelihood of providing a safe environment for them. But in the end, it is the adults around children who are really responsible for provision of a safe and healthy environment for children. It is our responsibility as a community to be able to talk to each other about child abuse and how we can keep children safe. Child Personal Safety Project supports and informs parents, teachers, and other caretakers in this effort.

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), located in Batavia near Chicago, Illinois, is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics. As of January 1, 2007, Fermilab is operated by the Fermi Research Alliance, a joint venture of the University of Chicago and the Universities Research Association (URA). Fermilab is a part of the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor.

Fermilab's Tevatron is a landmark particle accelerator; at 3.9 miles (6.3 km) in circumference, it is the world's second largest energy particle accelerator (the CERN LHC is 27 kilometres in circumference). In 1995, both the CDF and D0 (detectors which utilize the Tevatron) experiments announced the discovery of the top quark. In addition to high energy collider physics, Fermilab is also host to a number of smaller fixed target experiments and neutrino experiments, such as MiniBooNE (Mini Booster Neutrino Experiment), SciBooNE (SciBar Booster Neutrino Experiment) and MINOS (Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search). The MiniBooNE detector is a 40-foot (12 m) diameter sphere which contains 800 tons of mineral oil lined with 1520 individual phototube detectors. An estimated 1 million neutrino events are recorded each year. SciBooNE is the newest neutrino experiment at Fermilab; it sits in the same neutrino beam as MiniBooNE but has fine-grained tracking capabilities. The MINOS experiment uses Fermilab's NuMI (Neutrinos at the Main Injector) beam, which is an intense beam of neutrinos that travels 455 miles (732 km) through the Earth to the Soudan Mine in Minnesota.

In the public realm, Fermilab is host to many cultural events, not only public science lectures and symposia, but classical and contemporary music concerts, folk dancing and arts galleries, when the Homeland Security Advisory System permits. Currently the site is open to all visitors from dawn to dusk who present valid photo identification.

A small herd of American bison, started at the lab's founding, lives on the grounds symbolizing Fermilab's presence on the frontier of physics and its connection to the American prairie.

Cloud computing trend: processing, storing, and distributing your digital photos entirely online and independent of any personal computer. Photographer's rights to take and use photos. Perpetual image hosting - Flickr promises to never erase an image! What does that mean in terms of your legacy?
Photographer Michael "Mike" L. Baird is an avid and some say addicted Flickr user, having migrated most of his Internet photo presentation sites (bairdphotos.com, stealthispicture.com, digitalchocolate.org, BirdsOfMorroBay.com...) onto Flickr, which you can find via flickr.bairdphotos.com. Mike wants to infect you with his same interest. At Flickr, Mike hosts about 5000 Morro Bay-related images which have been viewed over two million times, averaging 4000 views a day. His "most interesting" images have each garnered 20,000 views and 400 comments, and appear in 60 groups, and some are linked to or purposed with attribution from up to 200 different external sites. Because of Flickr and the related Creative Commons revolution, hundreds of his images have now been used in educational settings including State Park, National Marine Sanctuary, National Estuary Program, etc. kiosks and displays, books, pamphlets, interpretive signs, rescue cards, Coast Guard murals, birding resource sites, etc.
In this presentation Mike hopes to get you excited about the possibility of projecting your photography further into the digital universe. Many of us do not realize it, but our legacy may well be represented by only those bits we leave behind on the Internet. In 500 years, what will Google and Flickr say about you?
