Heaven or Las Vegas
image editing online
About 10 minutes ago there was this amazing sunset here in Las Vegas. It really made me feel good to shoot it. I'm so tired. Running on no sleep. It's pretty unlikely that I'll make my 1,000 photos uploaded before I leave goal (I've only got 456 online so far). And then I feel really kind of creeped out right now. I'm not sure why exactly. It probably has something to do with taking a side trip away from CES today to shoot the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo. It was interesting but I'm all conflicted about shooting it.

I've admired Larry Sultan's series The Valley for a long time. The human depth and emotion that he gave to the porn world in the San Fernando Valley. But I'm no Larry Sultan and the interaction with the women while shooting today seemed so strange. So fake and lukewarm on the outside, posing for the thousandth time, while hard and tough on the inside. I'm still not sure what to do with images of that that I shot today. Some are explicit and I don't think I'll put those online. Others are not -- but what am I really doing with them other than just getting them up for perhaps all the wrong reasons.

Anyways, the sunset felt really good for me to see and shoot tonight because it is something safe and warm and comfortable for me and even though sunsets are cliche it makes me feel a little less hollow for now.

Did this photo really need a dinosaur? Apparently it did. Someday I'll let my images stand on their own, but until then let the dinosaurs roam.

ezimba is a web site that can apply different imaging effects.
www.ezimba.com/index.html

I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.

Ezimba also has a Facebook app, Google Android app, and a free iPhone app. Please note that the free iPhone app puts a small logo on the edited image. You can buy the paid ezimba app and not have the logo.

I grabbed two images from the Internet as reference and drew a cross between Harry Potter and Pinkie Pie of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The drawing was mostly done in Sketchbook Pro, but the finishing touches were done in Pixlr, the online photo editor.

I recorded the drawing session, plus most of the editing in pixlr on my Livestream account, as a video.

Hey, deleteme kids. Here's my first-ever submission. Bring it on!

Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins, Saturday February Fifth at the Angel Orensanz Foundation.

This show. was. incredible. True, I adore Jenny Lewis like she's a gift from heaven (and am waiting for proof that she isn't), but I was not very much a fan of her solo album - until tonight. Theatrics aside, she showcased a vulnerability and musicianship that doesn't come across on the studio version or even on 2004's bootleg from The Echo in L.A.

This is my first time really shooting in RAW, and I think my haphazard editing shows that. I have many more photos that will be coming online pretty soon, but I need to learn how to really work with RAW. I'll replace these photos and add a dozen or so more in the next week or so - anyone know where an NYU student can get access to CS2?

All works distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, see "Additional Information" to the right. Please feel free to use my photos for whatever purpose you see fit, and let me know if you get a second!

A man looked at the hundreds of people in a line which began on Haight Street in front of Amoeba Music San Francisco and snaked into a McDonald's parking lot and asked, "What band is playing?" "A newspaper" was the response from a man in the line. "A newspaper?"

But it wasn't just any newspaper the mostly young crowd was waiting for. It was Radiohead's The Universal Sigh which featured art and writing with an environmental theme which was distributed for free in cities around the world. Most let their photo be taken with iPhones to be uploaded to the paper's website.

Ally Roarty and her friend who gave her name as Britney S. gave out the papers and took photos with their iPhones.

Maxime Stinnett who teaches a student DeCal class on The Life Lyrics, and Music of Radiohead at UC Berkeley, bought the band's new album on vinyl at Amoeba and waited in line to get copies of the paper to use in teaching his class.

A woman arrived and parked her car in the street as the last people in line got their papers. She hadn't been able to get a copy of the paper at another distribution site in the Mission which ran out of the paper, so she drove to Amoeba and was able to get The Universal Sigh.

9 - The Vinegar Tasters by Unknown (traditional) and Stein

I highly recommend you view this in a larger size.

My little brother, Nathan Stein, is absolutely fucking amazing. He's done 11 photographic recreations of famous paintings, all with only family members and items found inside of our parents' house.

EDIT: If you're interested in a print or scroll of the "Vinegar Tasters" aka the "Three Sages" aka the "Three Sours" with Lao Tzu, Buddha, and Confucious, please ask me. I can direct you to one or two reputable sellers online, as opposed to the guy at www edepot com / taoism_3-vinegar-tasters.html.

He a jerk, a liar, believes that if he buys a painting he owns copyright, claims to be the only source for selling this TRADITIONAL CHINESE IMAGE and actually vandalizes Wikipedia from time to time to get people to go to his shop and buy his stuff.

PS3 color problem
online image editing
[UPDATE] A solution to this problem has finally been found! See the comments below for instructions.

Here's hoping I can find help from folks who are experts with PS. A few months ago, the color settings in PS3 were changed. I think I opened an image from somewhere, or installed a printer, installed an action, or edited a file in some way such that the whitest color i can get in my palette is an off white color. The settings are for pure white, as you can see on the right, but my images are tuned such that all I see is this color. It's affecting the way I see the finished picture, and messing up my processing.

Just so you know, here are things I've already checked out.

1) it's not the monitor calibration. You can see that the menus in the PS program don't show the same tint.

2) I've gone to Edit > Color Settings and I see:
Working Spaces
- RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
-CMYK: US Web Coated (SWOP_ v2
-Gray: Gray Gamma 2.2
-Spot: Dot gain 20%

All color management policies are off

I've looked online for hours trying to find a solution, and there's nothing. Can anyone help?

After a long long looooong debate with myself to start the 365 project, I decided I will go full force with the idea!

I am hoping to make as many images as I can editorial high-quality.
I know that this will take me a lot longer to compile and edit, but I feel as though it will benefit me lots in the long-run!
My goal is to be featured in a magazine, even if its just online.

I will start Wed. June 1, 2011
