Edit details: both images taken with Procamera in iPhone 4S.
Base image is of another tree trunk lit by a spot light. Put it into Marblecam and then #tinyplanet and this is what happens. And then use Twistcam at some point.
Foreground image edited in Snapseed then Percolater.
Percolated edition merged with tree in Superimpose - mask cloned to fill other area and layer blend mode changed.
Non-percolated image masked in.
Result edited in PS Express, one texture in iColorama used and then in Glaze. Then in Image Blender pre & post-Glazed editions.
Filters in #mextures and Camera Awesome used.
Finished in Snapseed as always.
Something like that.

a while ago i mentioned that i went for a meeting with a magazine editor in la paz with view to publishing some of my photos in the next issue. when i returned to la paz i checked into a hostel and saw the magazine on the side with my photo on the front cover. it was a good feeling. the magazine is a free, english language magazine called bolivian express - i'd met some girls who wrote for it when i went to the mines in potosi and that chance in encounter ultimately led to my photos appearing in it. the pictures were all about the aymara new year, which i witnessed and photographed in tiwanaku on winter solstice. you can read a bit more about it in the accompanying magazine article - here's a link to the online version. this photo appears in the centre page spread as part of a photo essay - whatever that is. as is tradition, everyone in the crowd that gathered to welcome the new years sun raised their hands to the sky. well everyone except me who just took a bunch of pictures of them.

I 've been using iPhoto to organize my photos but I have too many photos now and I'm trying out Lightroom. (my Mac is too lightweight for Aperture). I like Lightroom a lot but I don't care for the fact that it embeds photo captions and titles as exif data. There are times where I'll want the online caption to have less info than the version on my hard drive (e.g. remove people's names). The only way to change the exif data of a photo on flickr is to re-upload the shot. Unfortunately they haven't released an SDK yet so it will be a while before there's a good fickr uploader for it or a way to move my pics from iPhoto to Lightroom without losing a lot of data.

I uploaded this by making setting Flickr Uploadr as the anternate editor in Lightroom's prefs and then chose 'Open in Uploadr' for the "after export" setting in "post processing". Unfortunately, Uploadr set the photo title to the file name instead of using the exif title field. It didn't fill in any of the exif data into the uploadr dialog but after the photo uploaded, the caption and keywords were set correctly. It also created tags for the IPTC City and state fields.

The color adjustment controls are a lot different than photoshop but I think once I get used to them I'll like them more. I when I tried editing this photo in photoshop I never got results i liked very much but this adjustment was pretty easy in lightroom. Still not a masterpiece, but not bad for such low light. I think I'll like heirarchical tags a lot too.

1That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9He who has ears, let him hear."

10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

18"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. 23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Freya, our black cat, is the sister to Loki. She has discovered this week that if she bum's rushes Danya that Danya will more often then not break and run. This has given Freya an edge on becoming top cat again. There are places where Freya can't get up the speed required and those places (the top of the bed for example) Danya still rules.

A physically and audibly intoxicated student was found lying in the grass on W. Virginia Street last Thursday morning. An FSUPD officer responded to the scene after receiving reports of the intoxicated male causing a disturbance. The officer reported that the subject was slurring his words and speaking incoherently. However, as soon as two African-American persons passed by, the subject’s speech improved and he repeatedly shouted racial slurs. The intoxicated subject continued to slur profanities at other passers-by. Suddenly, the subject began running down the street to evade police. After being quickly apprehended, the intoxicated male was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest without Violence.

--- Homeless man practices art of trespassing

Following a security check of the FSU Fine Arts Building around 3 a.m. last Thursday, an FSUPD officer noticed a man who appeared to be homeless loitering around the north side of the building. The man in question was carrying canned beer in a plastic bag. After the officer obtained the man’s identification, the officer ran his license and found that the man had previously received a trespass warning in January. This prior warning barred the subject from the entirety of the Florida State University campus. Because of this violation, the man was placed under arrest for Trespass After Warning.

--- The Drunk and the Furious: Tallahassee Drift

Last Saturday around 1 a.m., a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign on W. Jefferson Street. The same vehicle then proceeded to drift into a lane of oncoming traffic causing another car to swerve out of the way. After observing both traffic violations, an FSUPD officer pursued the vehicle to Woodward Avenue to conduct a traffic stop. When the officer turned on his lights signaling the driver to pull over, the driver turned on their left turn signal and then made a right turn into the FSUPD parking lot where the traffic stop was conducted. The officer soon noted the odor of alcohol emanating from the driver’s car and from the driver herself as she was asked to step out of her car. The driver said she had a glass of Hennessey when the officer inquired if she consumed any alcohol before driving. The driver consented to three field sobriety tests. She did not pass any of the three tests. A partially-empty bottle of vodka was also found in the subject’s car. A check of the driver’s ID confirmed that she was Under 21. The driver was arrested for Possession of Liquor by Persons Under 21 and Driving Under the Influence.

Anne Mbusu is the administrator of the Masi Maminba territory, in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Bandundu province. In 2010, she became aware that there was a growing malnutrition problem in Masi Manimba. A survey by the Pool d'Urgence Nutritionel du Congo found very high rates of malnutrition, triggering a response which was lead by the NGO Action Against Hunger, supported by UK aid.

Action Against Hunger sent a team of doctors and nutritionists to Masi Manimba for three months. They identified and treated as many malnourished children as possible.

Following the initial three month response Action Against Hunger stayed on in the town for another few months, training to community leaders like Anne, teaching them how to identify the early signs of malnutrition as well as how to better use locally available produce in order to eat more healthily. Anne Mbusu explains what a difference this has made to her town:

"As a mother, it made me stop and think. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief, there is a real change. Now when you go to the hospital there are only a small number of malnourished children there, whereas before you used to find a lot.

"Action Against Hunger trained us how to look after ourselves better. Thanks to the training, we consider ourselves actors now. The training helps us when we talk to a new community. We have the responsibility to raise people's awareness about the necessity to feed children well first of all, with the food we can produce ourselves.

"I think families used to be reluctant to bring a malnourished child to a health centre because they thought it would bring shame on them. Also malnutrition is a disease that can evolve little by little and cause death without much notice. I think that now, the parents, the families understand that every malnourished child has to be taken to the health centre."

Background

Acute malnutrition is a major public health problem across the Democratic Republic of Congo. UK aid has supported the government of DRC and aid agencies including Action Against Hunger to provide emergency nutrition response programmes across DRC in 2010 and 2011.

In some areas, the communities have taken the ideas that Action Against Hunger brought to them, and organised themselves to tackle malnutrition from the ground up - by forming their own co-operative farms and self-support groups.

Michael Jackson pays tribute to Michael Jackson during his own Memorial Service at the Staples Center, Los Angeles .. as per Pollstar.

Saw this in an email sent by the concert notification website Pollstar. After Google proved that Michael Jackson is a Zombie, this story continues the saga. (Also see 'Selling Michael Jackson's soul for 150 bucks')

In another note, I just saw Stevie Wonder about a week ago at the Montreal Jazz Festival 2009, which turned into a Michael Jackson Tribute concert. He played the same song at the Staples Arena today.

This nighttime HDR shot was taken from Lodge Kura Hulanda's pool area. Lodge Kura Hulanda is one of the top resorts located in Curacao. The first day there I was able to get a beautiful sunset, and this gorgeous moonlit shot. My photographic journey in Curacoa started off pretty good. On a side note, this HDR photo was tone mapped in Photomatix using Exposure Fusion. I usually use Detail Enhancer, but I find that exposure fusion works best for nighttime photos, at least for me.
