The Library of Congress website offers a multitude of historical images, many with no known restrictions on use. This image is derived from the James Gibson stereograph negatives titled Cumberland Landing, Va. Secret Service men at Foller's House. The forerunner of the modern US Secret Service was the Union Intelligence Service run by Allan Pinkerton. Pinkerton's men often served undercover as Confederate soldiers and sympathizers to gather intelligence.

Melander stereograph titled Summer night tea party. This stereoscopic groups and portraits series was published when the studio was located at 88 N. Clark Street, Chicago, five years after the great fire 0f 1871.
